You've played the CD in your computer and enjoyed navigating the photographs and music, but what else can you do with the product?  We have included suggestions below for fun and economical ways to make the most of your personal, non-commercial use.  Please take note of the disclaimer at the bottom of this page.

  1. DVD Players and Television

  • The 100% Foothills CD contains over 100 jpeg photographs and 6 MP3 songs, both of which can be browsed in most DVD players.  Just insert the disc and at the prompts you may view the photos one at a time or listen to the songs one at a time.  "Full Track" is also included which has all six songs bundled together.

  • Create your own movie using the photos, WAV music, and Windows Movie Maker.  This program is part of the operating system installation, so if you have Windows you already have the program.
    Instructions

  •  If your computer is equipped with a TV-Out card, which allows you to use your television as your computer screen, then you can enjoy the CD as is - with full navigation - on your television.  And if you're considering a TV-Out card but are not sure where to begin, most computer service retailers can provide the card, with installation.  We'd advise you to call around for pricing.

  1. Music CD Players

  • The WAV songs can be burned to a CD as a music disc which can be played on your music CD player.  We used Nero software, but most CD burning utilities include the capacity to burn a music disc.

  • If your player has MP3 capabilities then use those songs as part of a favourites collection of MP3 music.  You can fit over ten times as many MP3's to a disc as you can standard WAV files.

  1. Computers and Graphics

  • Do you have Windows and Office?  Then use Word to create calendars and cards for friends and family using your own personal selection of photographs.  Or delve into Power Point where you can create entertaining and colourful presentations with the photos and music.

  • Personalize your desktop with your favourite photo.  Right-click an open area of your Desktop and select "Properties".  Select "Desktop", then browse to the photo you would like.  "Apply" and "OK", and that's it.

  • Create your own screensavers on your Windows machine.  Right-click an open area of your Desktop and select "Properties".  From the new window select the "Screen Saver" tab.  Under the "Screen saver" drop down menu, select "My Pictures Slideshow", and then click "Settings".  Here you may browse to the photos you would like to add to your screensaver.  Say "OK" all the way back to the beginning and you are ready to go with your own personalized screensaver.

Note: Pre-select the photos you would like to use and put them in their own folder so when you browse to the folder you won't be putting too much stress on your system resources by selecting too many photos at once.  We recommend starting out with 5 or 6 pictures.

  1. Free and Open Source Programs - to make the most of your 100% Foothills photos and audio.

  • Audacity is an open source (free to use) sound editing program that will help you in bringing out the best sound quality of the music files.

  • Virtual Dub provides video/audio editing capabilities for working with your movies.

  • GIMP, a photo editing program originally designed for Linux, has a Windows distribution at the open source cost of $0.  The program is complicated to get used to, but has many features and capabilities.

  • For less complicated photo editing, Ultimate Paint offers capabilities above the standard Paint program in the Windows operating system.  Be sure to select the Free version for download.

  • OpenOffice is an open source office suite, capable of opening and editing most Microsoft documents, having built in capabilities for Word and Power Point style documents, and also a vector graphics program as part of the suite.  It is also capable to run alongside a Microsoft Office installation.

  • For just vector graphics, Inkscape provides excellent capabilities to create clip art and logos for your personal communications.

  • And for kids of all ages, Dolly Soft is a wonderful software to create storybook animations with your choice of photo backdrops.
